Flame contains references to Alphonse Mucha’s art, with an outlined figure and whiplashed curves. I like to imagine that our actress is burning with a deep anger, or love even. Again, touching on the duality of love, similar concept to the piece Obsidian. When we seek for love anywhere but inside ourselves, we experience suffering. Although, in contrast to Obsidian, this one is more of a deep-seated rage. Perhaps an expectation not being met. The white-hot anger masked with a composed pose — the only evidence being the smoke coming out of her nose and her hair on fire.
