Sleeping Water Goddess
"Does that soft cool moon climb into the blinds of your window? And does it make your heart ache?"

This piece was first created in my daily sketchbook when I lived in Seattle. I felt something really tender about her expression. I would visit the Puget Sound everyday, and the background was inspired by the landscape of Washington. The drawing was scanned, and colored in Photoshop few months later.
I find sleep to be such an interesting subject. The pull of tiredness is something that we are so used to, but don’t really understand. It’s as if the pull is so strong, that we would give up everything (our safety, our personality, time with our loved ones, work, our thinking mind) just to go to sleep. In a way, we’re rendered dead. In a way, the state is very similar to meditation, finally a moment of true peace in our daily lives. I perceive sleep to be really beautiful, and I hope that comes across in my work.
