With quick, painterly stokes — “New Orleans” was inspired by the jazz impressionist painting. I wanted to capture one of my favorite cities by the colorful buildings and the aliveness of the streets. The African-American, French, and Spanish influences are all reflected in the architecture like the homogenous mixture of gumbo itself.
